Elements of the screen of any software refers to the function groups that contain multiple actions that allows the user to navigate in creating any project within the software. Proper grouping of these actions will give the user ease of access to any processes that leads to the completion of his project. Aside from these, icons are useful elements that provides a shortcut in an action that has to be made. It saves time and effort of searching through different menu and toolbars for an action to be done. As a general rule, the user interface that you are about to make should be user-friendly and easy to understand.
COMMON INTERFACE DESIGNS
- Menu and Toolbars are always at the top. It would be easy for any user to navigate the software if these options are located at the top of the software, visible and specific. These contains all major functions and sub actions that will help the user to accomplish his task using the software. Group all related actions so that the user can smoothly find the action that he needs. As per toolbars, pick an icon that is relevant and easy to understand. Some designers use different designs aside from the typical ones but still, it leads to the action that is needed.
- Offer a name or action at mouse over. It would be helpful for first-time users to have a name or action at mouse over. This will help him in familiarizing the screen of the software. You might also include an option to disable the mouse over function because those who are familiar with the software may find it annoying.
- Floating toolbars. Recent innovation in creating a user-friendly interfaces utilizes floating toolbars containing the most common functions and actions in the software. Typically, it uses a transparent background so that it doesn’t block a portion of the screen. This may be bothersome at first but advanced users find it helpful to them. You may also include a disable function of this toolbar so that the user have the freedom to navigate it or not.
